High voltage British sound.....so fat

No other plug-ins needed, just control the guitar volume.
The good old days amp comes back to life.....amazing.....

Marshall sound without hesitation

If you turn up the gain, you can travel back in time to those days. I was surprised by the fat and glittering sound, so much so that I lost track of time and played it over and over again.

Not for Apollo Unisson but no latency issue using Cubase

You may or may not like the sound of this plug-in, test it to check, and it would have been great if it had been compatible with Unisson but in any case, as far as latency is concerned, I play with this plug-in in Live without any latency with Cubase 13 or 14. Of course, the same applies to Lion and Ruby. And it works really well.

Great Sound

This is a good sounding plugin. I truly don't understand all these negative responds here. If it only runs natively, doens't make it a bad plugin. I got great sounds out of it. Even with my Cordoba stage guitar taken directly into it (and the plugin was not designed for nylon guitars). It perfectly suites my Fender Stratocaster. I think it's better on clean sounds than on distorted ones. But both are very fine. So thumbs up UAD!

Amazing

This Lion plugin is amazing.
For starters, I thought running it as an effect plugin in my DAW would cause a problem with latency. There is no problem here. I'm using an M1 Studio, Logic, 44.1k and 64 sample buffer and 2.7ms output (10.7ms round trip). I cannot hear any latency at all. Sounds just like it's plugged in as a unison effect. So I can play it and listen in my headphones (or FRFR) and it sounds like a live amp. For the haters, yes, it takes some adjustment compared to unison plugins. If you are A/B'ing Lion and the Plexi Super Lead on the same input channel, you will have to do some inconvenient muting and switching of input monitoring. It would be nice if Lion could be plugged into the unison slot, but it's not a deal breaker.
This plugin sounds different than the other Marshall unison plugins, including the Plexi Super Lead 1969. To my ears, the Lion sounds MUCH better. The Plexi has this cry or wine that I've never really enjoyed or learned how to mange. The Plexi 1969 also sounds really bright/harsh and distorted on almost any setting.
I feel bad for those that bought the pedal and had to buy this "again". Doesn't seem fair to me. Maybe some sort of discount would have been reasonable? With that said, if you buy at the right time or with the right bundle, you really don't have that much to complain about. You can get this plugin for a price that is not only reasonable, but an absolute steal considering what you get.
When you start playing this plugin, it's immediately pleasing. This amp has an amazing characteristic where it has "clear" distortion. It's hard to explain, but it's bright, but not harsh. Warm, but not muddy. Distorted, but not over compressed. You can easily sound like some of your favorite guitar players, but even better, you can take that same tone or something similar and add it to your style of playing and you get something perfect for you. We are so fortunate that we live in a time where you can have access to Lion, Ruby and Dream 65 for a small fraction of the cost of owing one of these physical amps. Plus the software doesn't fill up your room with huge amps. LOL
The only thing I do not like about his plugin is not a problem with Lion itself, but all UA amp plugins (including unison). I'd like to be able to change the "Power soak" or final master volume of each factory preset so the volumes match. As I scroll through presets, some are too quiet and some jump out as super ear piercing loud. Some are set so high, they clip the Console output. Without changing the sound or any other setting for a factory preset, I'd like to change and save an output level (or the power soak) of a factory preset. I'd like have the option to easily reset it back to default too. I'm sure it could be done.
Yeah, I'm a bit of a UA fanboy, but if this amp was not great, I would not give it a great review. It is truly great! Just buy it!

Quality, but could be better

This plugin sounds pretty good, especially on clean tones. I haven't been able to get any good edge-of-breakup tones (yet); not sure if it's because I'm not tweaking right or because of the plug, but we'll see. It could be better, though. The gain structure is a bit weird with the Boost and the Volume knobs, and it's definitely un-intuitive to a producer. Also, it could be really awesome if we could mix and match the cabs and the mics - this is something that would have been so easy to do and is done by a lot of other amp sim makers, but is noticeably missing from this plugin. Last thing - I read a couple of review here that say that the plugin is very CPU-heavy; I didn't have that experience - maybe UA fixed it up by the time I downloaded. All-in-all, I'm happy with it. Finally, there's a (pretty) decent amp sim for clean tones.

UAD Lion 68 Marshall

Thousands of dollars worth of virtual Marshall amps for a fraction of the cost. Software Engineers at UAD executed superior work performance to create Lion 68. Phenomenal tone.

Dream is the right name

Ran some of my previously recorded guitar tracks through the dream plugin and it TOTALLY gave me the sound I’d been looking for. Definitely worth the money!

Excellent plugin but No Apollo Version :(

The best Amp emulation i've ever tryied. But very disapointed because i needed that plugin to work with my Apollo. It is not CPU friendly at all....

is this only for UADx or will it be for Unison?

The plugin sounds great and I've always wanted to have an amp sim of the deluxe with the reverb and tremolo. The potential is amazing! But I'm used to using Unison plugins.

Maybe i'm doing it wrong, but when I try to track with the plugin as an insert in Pro Tools or Luna, I can't use Low Latency or ARM? So I get latency.

Am I missing a step? I have the subscription to UADx plugins and i was so happy to see the amp sims are part of the package but I can't use this way.

Thanks!

Love it

A bit surprised by the current average rating for this product. As a guitar player I find it sits among the best guitar amp plugin I've ever played. Edge of breakup sounds are usually very disappointing to me in other plugins but on this one, with a good Strat, those just shine.

Put volume, treble and bass on ten, the rest on zero with the Boutique D65 cab, add a room reverb (Hitsville Little Bass Room in my case). Use the boost if you need more grit. You're ready for a timeless blues jam.

Quo vadis UAD ... new guitar plugins native

The new native guitar plugins are smart, especially the Lions "Marshall" one. However, why should I buy such a plugin if a cannot use it with Apollo in unison mode. For me, all this does not make sense, unless it is true that UAD gradually attempts in the long run to leave the Apollo hardware line. If this, sadly, should be the case, they betray their confident hardware customers. Hope, that early enough they wake up and recognise, where this journey leads to finally. Besides that ... I like the new guitar plug-ins. I would buy two of the new guitar plugins if they were Apollo-enabled (and not only native). But it does not make sense for me to buy them without this ability. I love Apollo , but the native versions are just a (sometimes very) conveniant add on to it.

Not the best

I am a customer and fan of UAD, but this time I am disappointed. It is a toy sound, thin and digital, some competitors with the "tube" have much better and realistic Fender simulations. I hope you will take the Amp simulations to another level, like that of mixing plugins.

Clearly for players , not producers

Sounds great but the cpu hit is ridiculous (like a lot of last releases) , for comparison in my system Neural stuff avregae around 20 % ,this one can reach 50 % (in studio one )
7 Treads at 3.6 ghz
So if ya a guitar player that want to jam , cool , if you're a prodcuer that wanna re amp or mix several tracks , be sure to test before on your system .

It's the sound

Probably the best iteration on that "plexiglass panel" sound that defined rock and roll for over a decade.

Impressive!

Closest I've ever heard to a real cranked Marshall. Glassy Hendrix/Vaughan tone is there is spades. I haven't heard the stomp version so can't compare but this is the best in the box guitar amp I've played.

not great

gain stage is a mess, sound is brittle, not a lot of settings (if the sound was great, wouldn't need but...) and no DSP. When compared to other native brands on pricing/features/sound, I can only give it one star.

Almost

Beautiful interface. But the gain staging is a mess. No dB value indicator on the in/out faders. The amp itself goes straight from thin (1-3 on the volume knob) to dirty on anything above that. You can get it cleaner by turning down the input volume but then the Out volume at max is still too low (this is all following the UAD recommended settings of no gain on the Apollo input channel, and plugin Input set to Hi-Z). Overall the sound is good but thin and brittle if you're using single coil (audible in the demo video). Does not have the warmth and bass definition of the real thing. Hopefully updates will address some of this.
