Octo worth its price
To have an octo gives plenty of dsp with some of the finest plugins an audio engineer can find.
The older plugins from its earlier years are not my cup of tea, but the latest series are fenominal.
Love it.

It's very said to think, that I thought, I was using real sounding plug-ins
It's very said to think, that I thought, I was using real sounding plug-ins. I was a very happy UAD user since 2004.
Sometime in late 2000, I was introduced to W--e plug-ins where I was convinced to switch. At some point I sold my UAD1 card.
Periodically I would reflect back on the so real quality sounds that I got from the UAD1 card, finally I decided to revisit this company again.
After some research between many great option, I purchased the Octo Custom.
All I can say is that I am so very sorry to myself, for being so delusional about living without this UAD sound.
It's the truth and I am addicted, I will never ever leave again.
I am not getting anything for free by saying these things, I just appreciate quality and UAD is it.

Satellites are good but this is the boy!
Moved from two satellite quads to this and it was worth it. Better general stability and lower latency. I can mix big mixes without crashes and the DSP mysteriously disappearing! Firewire bandwidth was always a problem for me but not anymore!

Uad 2 octo
Since I already had a UAD 2 duo, I was familiar with the superior sounds of the UAD plugs...Once UAD started upgrading and re writing the code for some my favorite plugs, I needed way more power. The sounds of the upgrades are FANTASTIC!!! I can honestly say on all of my mixes now, I'm using 75% to 90% UAD plugs.

Octo costs a lot - And Does a Lot
It's pricey, I know. I waited for a sale and I got the custom version which saved me a few hundred. Also, UA has regular sales on their plug ins, so wait for those too. If you're new to UA like I am, and are thinking of getting a solo or duo, I'd say at least try and get a quad, but preferably the octo. Once you hear the sounds you're getting, you're going to want to use UA plug ins all the time on all of your channels. Some of the best plug ins use up the most processing power. With one octo card you're good to go unless you're a full-on pro producer always at 24-48 tracks or more. Then you might need a couple more of these. Blends right into the Cubase/Windows environment. They really are that good :)

This card replace a quad that I was using in my mac pro system. The extra power allow me to concentrate on my project session without during any track freezing.

UAD-2
The UAD-2 has been great! Ever since I got it, I've used it on every single mix without fail, and the plug ins sound fantastic. I can't wait to acquire more of them!

All the power of UAD and then some.
Card was easy to install and flawless in action. Just had to download the software and do restart. Got my plugins and was on my way to better mixes. I swear, my first 2 sessions that I used the UAD Octo in, the clients booked another session right then and there for another block the same week. Their reason being the remarkable sound I provided them. I mixed a song for a client and they overpaid me for the mix because they thought it was that good. I thought it would take some time to get used to the plugins but they blended right into my workflow and I'm not turning back. The last thing I can say is that the most I've got the Octo to during a mix is 57%. You wont need more power than this baby can provide!

UAD Quad card
If you are a serious UAD user, you will need the power of at least a Quad card in your setup. Granted with programs like Cubase you can freeze the tracks to save on some DSP power. The cost for the Quad card in my opinion is over priced. Especially when you consider the card has been out for a couple of years and the cost of processors goes done every couple of months. (Look how quickly the price of your computer drops every 6 months). With that being said, UA has helped to reduce the sting of the $1,000 hit on the wallet. They many times offer credit or specials. In my case I was able to get a $200 credit which paid for the excellent 1176 Collection.

Get a Quad or Octo Card.
Installing these cards is akin to performing a computer upgrade, and thus it enables you to do more with your system. I recommend getting at least a Quad Core DSP card, or you will run out of juice pretty quick, especially if you're using several of the newer UAD2 plugins which are a bit processor hungry. If you plan on strapping a Tape or Channel plugin across your mix, then you'll be better off with an Octo Core card, or two. It all depends on your needs, of course.
Best way to get into UAD is by taking advantage of their annual promotions, where they offer a free card with the purchase of one of their preamp units. That way you get both for the price of one. Can't go wrong!

Huge studio on my laptop
I' ve bought nearly every UAD plug, I use the octo with an external expresscard adapter, so light system with a big sound. I never use my native plug anymore. No bugs with my lenovo windows 7 64bit, latency

Bliss
I've been using plugins from everyone under the sun. Of course I've heard about the UAD stuff many times over the years, but I simply wrote it off as "fanboy" talk.
Then I heard a very naked track produced by a friend. Just two guitars and a vocal, but the sound was magnificent. The reverb was smooth as silk, the tones pure and the vocals like warm cream. So when I contacted him to ask how it was recorded and mixed his answer was "that's all UAD on there".
The same thing happened with another track I heard a few weeks later, so I knew I had to make the move. My Octo card has all the power I need to load up my tracks with the best sounding plugins available.
Now my tracks have the smooth, pure and creamy sound that eluded me.
Bliss.

octo card
i purchased the octo card to increase my Uad-2 dsp, now up to 12 chips. It is good to not have to worry about running out of dsp. I was impressed by the appearance of the card and it installed in the owc chassis ( a rebranded sonnet) and worked perfectly. Of course my FW consumption dropped down just to amount used by console.
I expected the octo to be seamless and transparent and it has been: plugs load and play easily and my system is not overtaxed.
The coupon for plugs and the upgrade offer were powerful incentives too. I would encourage people to expand their uad-2 dsp when it is affordable and ensure you analyze ua's promo's carefully as they are typically very good deals!

UAD-2 OCTO - Muscle and Grunt
Having started out with a UAD-2 SOLO Express Card, and immediately graduating to a QUAD OMNI package soon thereafter, the UAD-2 Plug-Ins off-board processing and quality of sound enhancement made mixing and mastering a rewarding time for a small studio operation. But like all computer junkies I wanted more ... more ... more ...
UA delivered more with the OCTO PCIe card. Seemless "upgrade". Just turned off computer, plugged in the card, turned on computer. Did the online registration and downloaded the new authorization file. BAM! Up and running. Woo Hoo! Haven't pushed the upper limits of OCTO performance, but, give me time ;-)
Biggest advantage is not having to render multi-level stems - real-time tweaking is great!

Power Perfomance
I've been hesitant to jump into the UAD universe for quite some time.
Working in multiple rooms and differently configured rigs I've always tried to keep a fairly consistent group of plug ins in mind while I'm working - namely Waves as most studios have their plug in bundles.
Funnily enough I saw more and more young producers and song writers with a UAD set up than big studios - be it PCI-E, firewire, or Apollo interface - and I finally decided to see what the buzz was all about.
Man am I happy I did. I was so blown away by it I had to grab a set up on my own and a few bundles.
Had I not jut upgraded my rig to and HD io I may have gone for the Apollo route I was just that impressed!
This is an awesome product!
